Mechanicsburg 3, Chambersburg 2: The Wildcats pulled out the fifth game, 16-14, to hand the Trojans a narrow non-league defeat on Tuesday evening on the road.
Chambersburg (1-1) won the first game 26-24 and the third 25-20, but Mechanicsburg rallied to win games 2 (25-17) and 4 (25-16) to set up the final set.
"Mechanicsburg played a very good match tonight," Trojan coach Ty Frelin said. "They played aggressive and smart, and that kept us out of system quite often. We struggled in serve receive and we struggled to get into any kind of offensive rhythm. But we did play hard until the end."
Alayna Jones led in assists (17) and added 19 digs, 7 kills, 2 blocks and 11 service points, with 2 aces for Chambersburg. Addi Kegerreis led in kills with 12 and digs with 23.
Also for the Trojans, Morgan Shaner scored 11 points, Karley Skultety had 7 points (5 aces), Nizaya Hawkins had 3 blocks and 7 kills, Riley Evans had 2 blocks, Marah Lehman had 9 kills and 17 digs and Ava Zeigler had 16 assists.
