3 Trojans fall short of states: Three Chambersburg players competing in the District 3 golf championships Saturday at Honey Run G.C. were not able to qualify for the PIAA Championships.

All of the five area golfers — in fact the majority of all players — had a higher score on Saturday on a course softened by overnight and morning rain.

On the boys side, Chambersburg's Jeremy Otto shot an 81, which put him at 13-over par for the two days, 6 strokes over the qualifying score.

Waynesboro's Tyler Fortney slipped to a 79 on Saturday and finished at 9-over par with three other golfers tied for 19th place  — all four fell one stroke short of the cut.

For the girls, Chambersburg's Emily Rensch finished tied for 11th, which was two places over the cut score. Rensch shot 91 on Saturday and was 27-over par. Teammate Emma Tolbert shot a 98 on the second day and placed 16th.

Abby Byers of Waynesboro finished one stroke ahead of Tolbert in 15th place with her score of 99.
