State College snaps Trojans win streak

BOYS SOCCER
State College 2, Chambersburg 1: A short-handed Trojan team traveled to take on the unbeaten Little Lions and nearly pulled off a big upset in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game on Thursday evening.

"Going into a game with four starters out against an undefeated side can seem daunting," Chambersburg coach Corey Grove said. "I was really hard of how hard our team fought tonight. We didn't make excuses and it required the boys to step up in roles that were unfamiliar."

State College took a 2-0 lead, but the Trojans (10-4, 7-3 MPC), who had a six-game win streak halted, got a goal when Luca Gaisbauer drilled a free kick into the net.

Grove said, "Luca had another opportunity with 30 seconds to go when he beat his man and was going to goal when the ref blew the whistle for a foul and didn't allow the advantage to play on, which ended the game before we could get the kick off.

"The effort on the field and energy on the bench gave us a chance. I couldn't have asked for more."

Drew Cover made 5 saves for Chambersburg. The Little Lions led in shots, 14-7.
