Lady Trojans fall to York in Northern Tip-Off Final

Northern York 39, Chambersburg 33: The Trojans led most of the game, but the host Polar Bears outscored Chambersburg 19-12 in the fourth to win the Northern Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday evening.

Northern, picked to win the Mid Penn Colonial, had plenty of trouble against Chambersburg's defense early. The Trojans led 11-6 after one quarter and moved the lead to 14-7 with 1:15 left before halftime.

Unfortunately, in that final 1:15, the Bears outscored Chambersburg 7-1 to trail by only 15-14 at the half.

In a low-scoring third period, a three-point play by T.T. Kelly helped the Trojans (1-1) maintain that one-point lead, 21-20.

On Northern's first possession of the fourth quarter, Cassidy Sadler drove for a layup and completed a three-point play, giving her team its first lead of the game at 23-21. Ella Parker came right back with a three-point play of her own to give Chambersburg the lead back, 24-23.

Emily Forrester made an acrobatic rebound basket and was fouled and her free throw gave the Trojans a 29-27 lead with 3:58 left.

But Chambersburg big Riley Evans had fouled out and the Bears began to take advantage underneath, as Hannah Freese scored 7 of her points in the final 3 1/2 minutes — all underneath the basket — to give her team the lead for good.

A 3-point shot by Bree Paetow with 1:16 left brought Chambersburg, which totaled 30 turnovers, to within 36-33, but Northern iced it with free throws.

Forrester — who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player — scored 10 points for the Trojans and added 14 rebounds. Paetow contributed 7 points and Evans had 5.

"I'm really excited about how the girls competed," Chambersburg coach Jamiur King said. "Northern is a great team with a ton of talent in their starters and reserves.

"Bree Paetow is a gamer — she makes big shots at big times of the game. Ella Parker, Hailey Frankhouser and Riley Evans all provided great energy."

In the consolation game, Shippensburg was defeated 50-41 by East Pennsboro.
