Trojan Swimmers score sweep over Rams

Chambersburg 89, Central Dauphin 81: The Trojans won five individual races and two of the three relay races to earn an 89-81 Mid Penn Commonwealth victory over the Rams on the road Tuesday afternoon.

"Today was our first test of the season," Trojan coach Hali Cormany said. "The girls had some fire and were able to finish with the win."

Margot Ritchie picked up wins in the 200 IM (2:17.58) and 100 backstroke (1:01.86) for Chambersburg (2-1, 2-1 MPC), while Madelyn Shifler captured the 50 free (26.86), Abby Caltrider took the 100 fly (1:07.0) and Hailey Fegan won the 100 breaststroke (1:16.73).

The 200 medley relay team of Ritchie, Fegan, Caltrider and Shifler won their race in 1:59.96, and the 200 freestyle team of Shifler, McKenzie Wicks, Fegan and Ritchie hit the line first in 1:46.52.

Cormany said, "Our 200 free relay was impressive and the girls in the backstroke (Caltrider was third) set us up nicely. Then our breaststrokers (Ava Grove was second) finished strong to clinch the win."

Chambersburg 109, Central Dauphin 61: The unbeaten Trojans took first place in every event Tuesday afternoon to swamp the Rams in a road Mid Penn Commonwealth meet.

Chambersburg coach Chad White said, "We performed awesome today against a very strong CD team. The medley relay set the tone for how the meet was going to play out. They pulled it out in a nailbiter."

The medley team of Cristian Pong, Ethan White, Alex Kaczmark and Cullen McGraw won in 1:40.30, with the Rams finishing at 1:40.56.

The Trojans (3-0, 3-0 MPC) also won the 200 free relay in 1:29.03, with a team of Derek Estep, Amir Tasker, Pong and Jed Ritchie, and took the 400 free relay in 3:26.74 behind Estep, Tasker, Kaczmark and Ritchie.

Estep captured two freestyle events — the 200 in 1:44.61 and the 100 in 47.44. Ritchie finished first in the 500 free (4:49.19) and the 200 IM (2:02.62), while Tasker won the 50 free in 21.80, Pong won the 100 fly in 52.39, McGraw won the backstroke in 56.74 and White was first in the breaststroke in 1:04.59.

Coach White said, "The boys have been working so hard and despite not feeling fresh, came out firing on all cylinders. It was nice to see us win all of the close races. I love the fire and guts they had tonight."
