BOYS BASKETBALL
Carlisle 64, Chambersburg 57: The Trojans put together a quality first half and led the Thundering Herd by 5 points at halftime of their Mid Penn Commonwealth tussle at Gene Evans Gym on Friday night.
But Carlisle (5-1, 2-1 MPC) owned the second half, outscoring Chambersburg 35-23 to capture the victory.
Trojan coach Shawn Shreffler said, "We played a really good first half – specifically, we were extremely efficient at taking good shots, taking care of the ball, and controlling the boards.
"But we were not as sharp in third quarter, which allowed the game to tighten up (tied 46-46). They were able to make more plays down the stretch."
J.J. Kelly tallied 23 points for Chambersburg (4-2, 2-2 MPC), including 14 in the first half.
Jermere Jones scored 11 of his career-high 18 points in the second quarter for the Trojans.
But Carlisle countered with a 26-point night by Parker Smith, plus 15 each from Jaydon Smith and Tionne Johnson-Holmes.
Shreffler said, "It was a great atmosphere and a good basketball game. We'll get better from the experience and continue to improve."
