Trojan boys capture West York tourney crown

WEST YORK — Chambersburg played a different kind of game than it has been used to so far this basketball season, using a stout defense to claim a tournament championship.

The Trojans held the host Bulldogs to just 42 points — the second-lowest point total an opponent has had this season — and claimed a 47-42 victory in the final of the West York Invitational on Friday afternoon.

Chambersburg is now 6-2, while West York is 4-5.

"It was a really tough win today," Trojan coach Shawn Shreffler said. "Aside from the quick turnaround, we put forth our best effort of the season on the defensive end of the floor, and it was good we did, because West York played extremely hard and challenged us in a number of ways."

Chambersburg broke out to a 14-5 lead after one quarter, as Colton Cornwell scored 5 points and J.J. Kelly 4. But the Bulldogs used an 11-6 advantage in the second to get to within 20-16 by halftime, and it was close the rest of the way.

Kelly led the Trojans with 18 points, Jermere Jones had 9 and Grayson Kegerreis scored 8.

For West York, Mark Walter hit five 3-pointers for 17 points.

Shreffler said, "Every time they seemed to have momentum, our guys responded with an answer of their own. Big plays were made down the stretch at both ends of the court by multiple guys, so it was very satisfying to walk out of their gym with a win."
