Trojan Boys own 3rd quarter in win

BOYS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 65, Central Dauphin East 50: The Trojans outscored the Panthers 19-7 in the decisive third quarter to pick up a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory on the road Wednesday evening.

Landon Buhrman

"We didn't play with much toughness or intelligence in the first half," Chambersburg coach Shawn Shreffler said. "CD East played much better and we didn't handle life on the road very well at all."

CD East (2-7, 1-4 MPC) held a 31-29 lead at halftime and still led 35-33 early in the third period. After Jermere Jones made 1 of 2 free throws, a layup by Landon Buhrman gave the Trojans the lead, only to have East go back ahead 38-36 on a drive and a free throw.

But Chambersburg scored the final 12 points of the quarter to lead 48-38 after three periods.

Buhrman tied it with a heavily-defended reverse layup, Ari Snyder popped in a 3-pointer, a pass from J.J. Kelly to Buhrman on a fast break made it 43-38, Jones made a pair of free throws and Stanley Lozius capped it off with a 3-pointer with a couple of seconds left on the clock.

Shreffler said, "We were able to respond with much greater urgency in the second half and were able to get more buckets in the paint, while also being tougher at both ends of the floor. This was a great test for us."

Jones scored 15 of his 23 points — a career high — in the second half. Buhrman had 10 of his 12 points in the second half. Colton Cornwell added 9 points and Kelly was held to 8 — his lowest point total of the season by 6.

"We got a great lift from Aden (Swatsburg) and Stan and their ability to play through contact," Shreffler said. "Jermere and Landon were efficient around the basket and Ari, J.J. and Colton did well at handling the pressure and getting us into a more efficient offense."
