Trojans topple CD on the court

BOYS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 50, Central Dauphin 46: The Trojans protected a short lead down the stretch and Stan Lozius made a key basket late in a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory on the road over the Rams.

Chambersburg (9-2, 5-2 MPC), now up to No. 3 in the District 3 Class 6A rankings, has won 5 straight games. CD falls to 9-4.

"We were really patient down the stretch, running clock and executing our late-game offense to get that great look that Stanley knocked down," Trojan coach Shawn Shreffler said. "We demonstrated tremendous poise and decision making in that situation."

Chambersburg managed only 15 points in the first half, but its defense did not let Central Dauphin take a big lead (22-15 at halftime). The Trojans then outscored their foe 19-12 in the third and 16-12 in the fourth.

Shreffler said, "Our defense was very solid and kept us in the game while our offense was sputtering. We took the lead fairly early in the third, then it became a back-and-forth affair until the end. We had lots of big shots and clutch plays by multiple guys."

J.J. Kelly scored 9 of his 20 points in the third period for Chambersburg, and Jermere Jones scored all 10 of his points in the second half.

For the Rams, who made only 11 of 25 foul shots, Wayne Fletcher scored 19, but only 7 in the second half.

"This is a really tough place to play and CD is really good, as evidenced by their record and their win Tuesday over Carlisle," Shreffler said.

The Trojans play at 2:30 Saturday vs. Lampeter-Strasburg in the Hoops for Harmony showcase at York Tech.
