Trojan boys swimmers beat Hershey to near division title

Chambersburg 103.5, Hershey 81.5: The Trojans achieved a program first Monday afternoon at Hershey by completing a season sweep of swim powers Hershey, State College and Cumberland Valley, putting a Mid Penn Commonwealth title in their sights.

Chambersburg (6-0, 5-0 MPC) has only one league meet remaining, next week against Mifflin County, which has a very small squad.

"We had some solid racing today, but no best times," Trojan coach Chad White said. "I don't remember having a Monday meet in my 11 years as coach, and I would say that neither team was that sharp."

Winning all three relays gave Chambersburg a big boost. The team of Cullen McGraw, Ethan White, Alex Kaczmark and Derek Estep won the 200 medley relay in 1:40.50, less than a second ahead of Hershey, to get the meet started.

The 200 freestyle relay of Estep, Amir Tasker, Jed Ritchie and Kaczmark won in 1:30.06, while Tasker, Ritchie, McGraw and White took the 400 free relay in 3:29.76.

Coach White said, "We were missing two boys today, so we were a little spread out, so we went for a win in all three relays and winning all of them really helped."

Estep and Kaczmark each collected a pair of individual wins, with Estep taking the 200 IM in 1:56.64, and the 100 freestyle in 47.25, while Kaczmark won the 50 free in 22.76 and the 500 free in 5:01.14.

Also earning victories were Ritchie (200 free, 1:48.65) and Tasker (100 fly, 53.83) In addition, Ethan White was second in the 500 free and third in the breaststroke, McGraw took second in the backstroke. and Keagan Myers was second in diving.

GIRLS SWIMMING
Hershey 120, Chambersburg 63: The Trojans competed well against Hershey on Monday afternoon in a Mid Penn Commonwealth meet on the road, but could come up with only one individual victory.

Addie Zimmerman scored 201.35 points to capture first place in the diving event for Chambersburg (3-3, 2-3 MPC), and teammate Jillian Johnson had 128.50 to come in second.

Trojan coach Hali Cormany said, "Many of the girls swam well tonight, despite the score. I'm proud of the girls for swimming their best against a really tough team."

Chambersburg took second place in two of the three relays, Margot Ritchie was the runner-up in the 200 freestyle and Hailey Fegan placed second in the 200 IM.

Third-place efforts included Abby Caltrider (200 IM), Lilly Evans (50 and 500 free), Ritchie (100 fly), Lauren Markle (100 free) and Kayla Wolfe (100 backstroke).

"Hailey, Abby and Lauren all had season bests in the IM," Cormany said, "and Emma (Skultety) in the 100 free, Brooke (Reichelderfer) in the 50 free, Ashton (Lucas) in the 200 and Lisa (Bisconti) in the breaststroke all had season or personal bests."
