Trojan girls hand Maidens a loss

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 52, Waynesboro 33: The Trojans got a monster game from freshman Emily Forrester and handed the Maidens a non-league defeat Thursday night in Waynesboro.

Emily Forrester

Forrester poured in 26 points — her career high — and it was the third time this season she's put up more than 20 points. She also hauled in 13 rebounds.

"Emily carried us tonight," Chambersburg coach Jamiur King said. "She has handled this season extremely well. She's a great kid with a ton of energy."

The Trojans (6-15), who ended a five-game skid, led 29-17 by halftime. Forrester sank 8 of 9 free throws and the team sank 16 of 19 at the line.

Riley Evans backed Forrester up with 9 points and Bree Paetow added 8.

King said, "We've finally been hit with the injury bug. Hailey Frankhouser has been out, Daijah Wallace has missed some games and Ella Parker went down tonight — that's three key seniors. But we didn't turn the ball over much in the first half (5), and that's a great number for any program. Bree Paetow, Morgan Smith and Selena Warren were outstanding handling Waynesboro's press."

The Maidens, who finished 11-11, and had one of their better seasons, were led by Bre McIlquhan with 8 points.

King said, "These young ladies haven't quit, and this was a good win for the program. Tomorrow we host one of the best teams in the Mid Penn (Altoona) in our last game. They beat us by 30 last week, but I think we can do better than that."
