Kelly banks 36 in win over ‘Boro

BOYS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 64, Waynesboro 44: The Indians did not have an answer for J.J. Kelly on Friday night, and that enabled the Trojans to pull away from Waynesboro in the second half for a non-league away victory.

J.J. Kelly

Kelly poured in a career-high 36 points (his previous high was 31 in the season opener), with 7 in the first period, 10 in the second, 8 in the third and 11 in the fourth.

"J.J. was phenomenal tonight and he continued his string of playing really good basketball of late," Chambersburg coach Shawn Shreffler said.

Waynesboro, which finished 9-13, pulled to within 31-29 early in the third quarter, but Kelly scored 8 of his team's next 10 points to give his team a 43-36 lead at the end of the quarter.

With 6:05 left in the fourth, Jermere Jones scored on a three-play to give Chambersburg (16-5) a 48-38 lead. Kelly then scored 11 of Chambersburg's next 14 points (Stan Lozius hit a 3-pointer in the run) and by the time the run was over, the Trojans led 62-42.

Shreffler said, "Waynesboro played a really inspired and highly competitive game, which we expected. Coach (Tom) Hoffman has done a really good job with his team. I was pleased with how we responded after they got within two.

"We have a big game Monday (at Altoona) to end the regular season. It'll be our seventh game in two weeks as we conclude our NBA-like schedule."

Colton Cornwell added 8 points for the Trojans. For the Indians, Farin Parks scored 11 points and Grant Thompson had 10.
