Trojans’ Aiden Hight places 3rd in PIAA

HERSHEY — Chambersburg senior Aiden Hight was victorious in two more matches Saturday at Giant Center and those two wins enabled Hight to capture third place at 215 pounds in Class 3A at the PIAA Wrestling Championships.

In the consolation semifinals, Hight met Aidan Buggey of North Allegheny and posted a 6-3 decision. That put him into the match for third place, where he pinned Ringgold's Jake Conroy in 1:27.

Hight finished 4-1 at states and was 36-4 for the season. Three of those losses were to Dillon Bechtold of Owen J. Roberts, who will wrestle for a title later Saturday.

In the match against Buggey, which was scoreless after one period, Hight escaped, drew a stall warning, then took Buggey down. An escape gave Hight a 3-1 lead. In the third, Buggey escaped again to make it 3-2, but Hight earned a point for stalling, then took Buggey down again with 1:12 left to seal the win.

The bout for third was a wild one. Conroy took Hight down and he escaped. Conroy scored another takedown and picked up three nearfall points before the first period ended with Conroy up 7-1.

But in the second period, Hight chose down, then he stood up, turned in, whipped in a headlock and took Conroy down to his back for the fall in just 27 seconds. It was a fitting way to end the career of a wrestler who was never shy about hitting throws from his feet.
