Trojans split with State College and Harrisburg

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Chambersburg 118, Harrisburg 31; State College 87, Chambersburg 63: The Trojans had no trouble beating Harrisburg, but State College was another story, as the Little Lions earned a Mid Penn Commonwealth win in a double dual at Trojan Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

Madelyn Koons

Chambersburg (5-2, 5-2 MPC) placed first in only three events — Madelyn Koons won the 1600 in 5:37.49, Alaina Morris was first in the pole vault with a leap of 9-6, and the 4 x 100 relay team of Jaxin Frazer, Jahnaya Trotter-Wimberley, Lashae Hang and Katy Weller won in 51.82.

"We challenged a really strong State College team, but came up a little bit short," Trojan coach Chris Monheim said. "The weather affected some performances, but we had some nice things happen.

"Madelyn Koons showed some toughness to hold off two State College girls for the win, and I was impressed with Hang's 27.58 in the 200 (for 3rd place)."

Morris matched her career best in the pole vault, Abby Bucher was second at 100-3 in the discus (her best distance this season), and Wimberley's 33-4.5 (3rd in the triple jump) was a career-best effort.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Chambersburg 118, Harrisburg 31; State College 78, Chambersburg 72: The Trojans won 10 events, which was enough to crush the Cougars, but the Little Lions' depth enabled them to slip past the Trojans for a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory on Thursday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.

Daniel Casagrandi

"Not the result we wanted score-wise against State College in another close loss this week," Chambersburg coach Jim Boyer said. "We'll take the win over Harrisburg and focus on the positives of some strong individual performances. Like Tuesday (a loss to Carlisle), our ineligible, sick and injured list left key performers out and swung some events to State College."

J.J. Kelly racked up three wins for the Trojans (5-2, 5-2 MPC), gaining first in the high jump (6-8), long jump (21-10.75) and triple jump (46-3.5).

Peter Mertz was victorious in the shot put (49-8.5) and discus (151-8). Winners on the track included Jermere Jones (110 hurdles, 15.41), Julian Clark (3200, 10:14.75) and Daniel Casagrandi (400, 53.14).

Chambersburg also won two relays — the 4 x 100 with Antonio Harrison II, Kelly, Blake Mallast and Jones (43.00), and the 4 x 800 with Ari Snyder, Kaden Rife, Liam Kirkpatrick and Owen Shrader (8:14.65).

Mallast placed second in the 200 behind SC's Jesse Myers, who won in 21.40. But Mallast's time of 21.74 broke the school record that was held by ConRoy Smith (21.94) from 2010.
