Softball team rallies for win over SC

Chambersburg 3, State College 2: The Trojans trailed 2-0 after four innings and 2-1 after five, but put up a pair of runs in the top of the sixth and held on to hand the Little Lions a Mid Penn Commonwealth defeat Wednesday afternoon in State College.

"The girls persevered today and found a way to win," Chambersburg coach Chris Skultety said. "We talked about how good teams do what they need to do when things aren't going your way. When we got down 2-0 we could have gotten down and found excuses, but that's not our style."

In the fourth for State College (8-2, 3-1 MPC), Sydney Wells singled off pitcher Kori Leedy and one out later, Addison Harpster smacked a two-run homer to center to make it 2-0.

The Trojans (9-2, 4-2 MPC) got one back in the top of the fifth. Bree Paetow walked and stole second base, then raced home on a hit by Samantha Paetow.

In the sixth, Marley Onomastico led off with a single and moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Kori Leedy.  SC pitcher Harpster got a strikeout, then Bree Paetow hit a grounded double to right that got past the outfielder, enabling both Onomastico and the speedy Paetow to score.

Skultety said, "We left a lot of runners on base, we hit way too many fly balls and we struck out seven times. We didn't make them make many plays. But we're happy to get a win — this is always a tough trip and place to play."

Kori Leedy (7-2) went the distance on the mound, allowing 3 hits, 2 earned runs and 2 walks, while striking out 9 batters. Chambersburg had 5 hits and Harpster walked 7 batters.
