Softball team sweeps twinbill vs. Huskies

SOFTBALL
Game 1, Chambersburg 11, Mifflin County 4: The Huskies jumped on top 4-0 through 3 innings, but the Trojans came alive to score 4 in the fourth and 7 runs in the fifth to take a Mid Penn Commonwealth win at Norlo Park.

Saleen Null

Saleen Null earned the pitching victory for Chambersburg with 3 innings of hitless, shutout relief, and also bopped a 2-run home run.

"The girls played great defense and had some really good at-bats," Trojan coach Chris Skultety said. "But the bad and ugly was our baserunning. We gave up way too many outs today on the bases, and we were fortunate it didn't cost us."

Mifflin County (6-7, 4-6 MPC) scored 2 runs in each of the first two innings off starter Kori Leedy.

The Trojans got it back in the fourth with four runs, all scored with two outs. Bree Paetow doubled to knock in a run. Two straight walks brought up Addison Gsell, who roped a two-run single after Bree Paetow scored on a wild pitch.

Chambersburg then busted open a tie game with 7 runs in the fifth, including 6 runs after two were out. Kori Leedy singled in the first run, two runs scored on a bases-loaded base hit by Samantha Paetow, an error allowed two more runs to cross the plate and then Null finished it off by belting a home run to center.

Bree Paetow and Gsell each had 2 hits.

Game 2, Chambersburg 7, Mifflin County 2: A grand slam by Bree Paetow in the sixth inning wrapped up a second win of the day for the Trojans over the Huskies.

Lauren Allison

Leading 2-0 in the top of the sixth, Chambersburg (14-3, 9-3 MPC) loaded the bases when Sanay Jones was hit by a pitch, Malia Cramer bunted for a single and Lauren Allison singled to center. Paetow then smacked a shot to center for the home run to make it 6-0.

"Congrats to Bree, who hit her first-ever home run that went over the fence at any level," Trojan coach Chris Skultety said. "Lauren Allison had a breakout day, too."

Allison was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Bree Paetow was 2-for-5. Her sister Sam Paetow belted a solo home run earlier in the game, giving her 6 longballs over the last 8 games.

Saleen Null worked the first 5 innings to pick up her second win of the day, giving up 6 hits and 2 runs.

Skultety said, "The positive is the girls kept battling and persevering. We'll be playing our fourth game in three days tomorrow (at home). I'm looking to see how mentally tough we can be vs. a good Red Land team."
