Chambersburg roundup: X-C teams open win big wins over CD

Lydia Willson

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Chambersburg 17, Central Dauphin 42: The Trojans put the first four runners across the line and handily defeated the Rams in their first Mid Penn Commonwealth dual meet of the season in a home event Tuesday afternoon.

Mady Koons won the race in a time of 20:57, followed by teammates Dana Rosenberry (21:37), Natalie Quinn (21:45) and Kaylie Savage (21:53).

Chambersburg coach Chris Monheim said, "It was a nice, comfortable win to start the season. I held out Brook Boone due to a slight injury and that allowed Lydia Willson a chance to get in our top seven. Koons looked pretty relaxed out front and Rosenberry, Quinn and Savage had only 16 seconds separating them."

Also for the Trojans, Raegan Hepner took 7th (22:42), Fernanda Orihuela was 9th (23:18) and Wilson was 10th (23:31).

Monheim said, "We're looking forward to a competitive test this weekend at the PTXC meet."

Kaden Rife

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Chambersburg 15, Central Dauphin 49: In their first meet of the season, the Trojans crushed the Rams, with the first six runners across the line wearing blue and white, picking up a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory Tuesday afternoon.

"CD is not super strong this year, so we kind of trained through the meet, and actually got a good performance from our top four guys," Chambersburg coach John Ambrosio said. "When it's kind of a workout and you still run under a 6-minute pace on the course, that's pretty good."

Four Trojans hit the finish line in first with a time of 17:57 — Liam Kirkpatrick, Kaden Rife, Aiden Alleman and Julian Clark. Next came Cole Lehman in 18:31 and Boston Vincenti in 18:39.

After CD took the 7th spot, the next five spots went to Trojans, led by Brian Morales in 8th in 18:51.

Ambrosio said, "We had a bunch of our younger guys run their best-ever times on the course. And we had 18 runners finish ahead of CD's No. 5 runner."
