Chambersburg roundup: Volleyball team gets back to .500

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Chambersburg 3, Mechanicsburg 0: The Trojans evened their record at 2-2 (1-2 MPC) by handling the Wildcats in 3 games in a Mid Penn Commonwealth match Thursday night at CASHS Field House.

Chambersburg took games of 25-15, 25-23 and 25-19.

Trojan coach Ty Frelin said, "We played very well as a team tonight. We served tough, which kept them out of system, we controlled the net and we transitioned well from defense to offense."

Karley Skultety dug up 20 balls to lead her team and added a team-high 13 points on serve, including 5 aces.

Riley Evans came up with 10 kills, 3 blocks and 10 digs for Chambersburg, while Alayna Jones contributed 6 service points, 14 kills and 11 digs.

Also contributing were Ava Zeigler (11 points, 39 assists), Nizaya Hawkins (1 block, 10 kills), Cami Bender (15 digs) and Marah Lehman (10 digs).

"We scrambled well and got some good swings even when we were out of system," Frelin said. "It was a good win."

GIRLS TENNIS
Cumberland Valley 5, Chambersburg 0: The Eagles earned a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory over the Trojans, taking all 5 matches in straight sets at Norlo Park on Thursday afternoon.

In singles play, Leah Wadel took 2 games from her CV opponent in a 6-0, 6-2 defeat and the other two singles matches were 6-0, 6-0 Eagles' wins.

In doubles, at No. 1, Gwen Sefcheck and Shelby Newman fell 6-3 in the first set and 6-0 in the second, and No. 2 Gretta Hill and Julianna Small won one game in the first set.

Chambersburg is 1-4 (1-1 MPC) and Cumberland Valley is 5-0.
