BOYS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 61, Central Dauphin East 46: The Trojans played a good second half to surprise the Panthers and take an impressive road win in the Mid Penn Commonwealth on Monday night.
Chambersburg (4-1, 2-1 MPC) got a pair of 3-pointers each from Jacob Bassham and Eli Shearer in the first quarter, but Central Dauphin East battled back to tie the game at halftime, 26-26.
The Trojans took a 7-point lead into the fourth quarter, then made 10 of 10 free throws and stretched the lead.
"Our second half was particularly strong, as we created some turnovers, battled on the boards and executed offensively, especially against their pressure defense," Chambersburg coach Shawn Shreffler said.
While Bassham (24 points; 10-for-10 at the free throw line) and Shearer (17 points) continue to fill up the basket, freshman forward Jai'tavius Kelly had a good night, scoring all 12 of his points in the second half — 6 in the third and 6 more in the fourth.
Shreffler said, "I'm extremely happy with the win over a very tough East team. With one of our key pieces out sick, we had other guys step up and make quality contributions, which will help us continue to grow as a team."
For the Panthers (3-1, 2-1 MPC), Domingo Cruz scored 19 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 40, Central Dauphin East 35: The Trojans entered halftime at CASHS Field House on Monday night trailing the Panthers by 5 points, but outscored them 24-14 in the latter half to pick up their first victory of the season in a Mid Penn Commonwealth clash.
A 13-3 advantage in the third period was the difference.
"We asked the girls at the half what were the things they needed to do better, and they knew: rebound, make stronger passes and attack the basket," Chambersburg coach Blake Schildhauer said. "Then they went out there and took the game — that's all you can ask for as a coach. Tonight, we were ready to win and that's first I've seen that."
Lily Cornwell led the way with 10 points, Ella Parker and Joelle Rheam each scored 7 and Allie List and Titi Kelly added 6 each for the Trojans (1-3, 1-1 MPC). All of those point totals were season highs, except for List.
Chambersburg was 14-for-19 at the free throw line, including 10-for-14 in the second half.
Schildhauer said, "In the last three games, I don't think we've shot more than three foul shots in any game, so to get 19 tonight is really good. We went to the basket. And we had a ton of rebounds.
"The girls never gave up; I'm so proud of them."
