Trojan boys pick up wins in hoops and swimming, girls fall in both

BOYS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 45, Altoona 19: Defense was the name of the game for the Trojans in a Mid Penn Commonwealth road game Tuesday night, holding the Mountain Lions under 20 points.

Chambersburg (8-1, 4-1 MPC) led 11-3 after one period and 33-9 at halftime, then cruised to its sixth consecutive win. Altoona is 3-4 (1-3 MPC).

"We played a really good first half," Trojan coach Shawn Shreffler said. "It started with our intensity and attention to detail on the defensive end of the court. We forced 17 first-half turnovers and numerous missed shots, which turned into buckets at the offensive end of the floor."

Jai'tavius Kelly was the only Chambersburg player in double figures with 15 points (a career high), while Carter Fogal totaled 7 points. Altoona paid particular attention to Jacob Bassham and Eli Shearer, holding them to season lows of 6 points for each of them.

Shreffler said, "I was also pleased with how we attacked their triangle-and-two defense, which resulted in some easy buckets."

In the Trojans' 22-6 blitz in the second quarter, the team hit all four of its 3-pointers.

"Overall, I was pleased with how we approached the game and respected our opponent," Shreffler said. "Tomorrow is another opportunity to get better at practice."

GIRLS SWIMMING
Carlisle 90, Chambersburg 78: The Trojans collected four first-place finishes and seven runner-up places, but it wasn't quite enough to catch the Thundering Herd in a Mid Penn Commonwealth meet on the road Tuesday afternoon.

Maddie Shifler picked up two of the individual victories, finishing first in the 50 free in 26.62 and the 500 free in 5:49.10. She also anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:54.19) that included Chase Johnson, McKenzie Wicks and Kayla Wolfe.
