GIRLS SWIMMING
Chambersburg 86, Central Dauphin 83: The Trojans took first and third in the final event, the 400 freestyle relay, to earn a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory over the Rams on Thursday afternoon at the Chambersburg YMCA.
The first-place team in the relay was comprised of Maddie Shifler, McKenzie Wicks, Layne Rydbom and Lily Evans, and their time was 4:28.44, besting CD by 9 seconds. Chase Johnson, Audrey Lough, Kayla Wolfe and Emma Grove placed third. The Rams' A team was disqualified when their third swimmer left the blocks too soon.
Chambersburg (2-3, 2-3 MPC) also won five individual events — Shifler in the 200 freestyle (2:21.96) and the 100 free (1:05.40), Evans in the 100 backstroke (1:19.39), Rydbom in the 50 free (29.07) and Abby Caltrider in the 100 butterfly (1:16.87).
"Tonight was a really challenging meet for the girls and I'm proud of them for pulling out the win," Trojan coach Hali Cormany said. "We had a lot of close races and came out on top. The girls really pulled together today."
"Abby, Maddie,, Lily, and Layne all had wins. Every girl earned points today, so it was a great group effort."
Individual runner-up finishers were made by Grove (100 breaststroke, 200 IM), Wolfe (backstroke), Rydbom (100 free) and Johnson (400 free). The 200 medley and 200 free relay teams also placed second.
BOYS SWIMMING
Central Dauphin 88, Chambersburg 61: The Rams had a little bit too much depth and captured a Mid Penn Commonwealth win over the Trojans on Thursday afternoon at the Chambersburg YMCA.
"I loved the boys' enthusiasm and attitude with each other today," Chambersburg coach Chad White said. "We raced well and every boy contributed to our team total. The standout races were Branden Estep's 200 IM (1st in 2:17.59), Derek Estep's 100 fly (1st in 59.50), Owen McMillen's 50 free (5th in 27.05) and our 200 medley team (1st in 1:52.46, Brandon Estep, Joseph Decker, Derek Estep and Jacob Shifler).
The other first-place efforts included Derek Estep in the 50 free (25.38) and Brandon Estep in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.35).
Runners-up for the Trojans (2-3, 2-3 MPC) included Decker in the breaststroke and the 200 free relay.
WRESTLING
Cedar Cliff at Chambersburg: The match was postponed until a date to be announced. Saturday's Chambersburg Duals Tournament is also postponed and will hope to be made up.
