Swimmers sweep tri-meet to end dual season

BOYS SWIMMING
Chambersburg 53, Red Land 44; Chambersburg 56, Waynesboro 35: The Trojans ended their dual meet season with a pair of victories on Wednesday, a Mid Penn Commonwealth meet vs. the Patriots and a non-league win over the Indians.

"The double team win was a great way to end the boys' regular season," Chambersburg coach Chad White said. "We have three weeks to prepare for Mid Penns and we are getting excited."

Individual winners for the Trojans (7-4, 4-4 MPC) included Brandon Estep (200 freestyle in 1:57.29; 100 free in 50.79), Derek Estep (50 free in 22.24; 500 free in 4:56.23), Jacob Shifler (backstroke, 1:02.99) and Joseph Decker (breaststroke, 1:07.01.

The 200 medley relay (B.Estep, Decker, D.Estep, Shifler) won in 1:43.55 and the 400 free relay (Shifler, B.Estep, Decker and D.Estep) won in 3:31.03. Shifler (200 IM), Decker (butterfly) and Keagan Myers (diving) took seconds.

For Waynesboro, Noah Collier won the 200 IM (2:09.34) and the 200 free relay team of Collier, Brenner McIlquham, Aiden Hess and J.B. Bonner won in 1:43.39. Red Land defeated 'Boro, 50-37.

GIRLS SWIMMING
Chambersburg 48, Waynesboro 46; Chambersburg 78, Red Land 21: Over the weekend, the Trojans and Maidens tied in a dual meet, but on Wednesday Chambersburg edged 'Boro, 48-46, and also picked up a Mid Penn Commonwealth win over Red Land.

Chambersburg coach Hali Cormany said, "It was our third meet in five days, but the girls persevered and got the wins. I'm really happy with how the relays came together and worked for each place."

The Trojans, who finished 6-4-1 (4-4 MPC), beat the Maidens with their depth, since Waynesboro won 7 events. Chambersburg winners were Lily Evans in the 200 freestyle (2:07.85) and 500 free (5:44.74) and Layne Rydbom in the breaststroke (1:14.49). Chambersburg also won the 400 free relay in 3:58.84, with Hailey Fegan, Maddie Shifler, Evans and Rydbom on the team.

"Lily Evans had some of her best swims and Layne Rydbom has been a consistent contributor," Cormany said. "I'm happy the seniors were able to finish with some wins."

Runner-up finishes were achieved by Shifler (200 free), Abby Caltrider (200 IM, backstroke), Fegan (50 free), Rydbom (butterfly) and Emma Grove (breaststroke).

For the Maidens, Eve Phillips won the 200 IM (2:07.85) and fly (59.72), Mya Beck took the 50 (26.91) and 100 free (58.89), and Joelle Blake was a winner in the backstroke (1:08.41).
