Mifflin County 50, Chambersburg 16: With six kids ranked in the top 25 in the state, the unbeaten Huskies have proven to be the team to beat in the Mid Penn Commonwealth, and they showed the Trojans why with a win Thursday evening in Lewistown.
Mifflin County (9-0, 4-0 MPC) opened the match with 3 pins and never looked back.
"They are good," Trojan coach Matt Mentzer said. "When I was scouting them, I could see they only really had one weight that wasn't pretty good. They're real solid in the other 12 weights. It's hard to get off the bus after that long trip and we weren't ready. Even in a couple of our wins we didn't look really good."
Zach Sherman (106) scored the only pin for Chambersburg (3-3, 0-2 MPC), and Karl Shindledecker returned with a 9-0 major decision over Blake Aumiller.
"We bumped Karl up and he got a 6-minute battle from Aumiller, who is ranked 25th in the state," Mentzer said.
Aiden Hight managed an 8-6 decision at 189 over MC's Trey Shoemaker, scoring a reversal and takedown in the third period to break a 4-4 tie. At 215, Zach Evans led Anson Wagner 5-2 after two periods and hung on for a 6-5 verdict.
"Those were both state-caliber matches," Mentzer said. "Both of their kids are ranked in the top 20 and so is Zach. We need those kind of matches. We've got a month to get ready for the postseason."
