Chambersburg's Derek Estep had an excellent day in the Cumberland Valley pool on Friday, taking third place in the 200 freestyle and first place in the 100 butterfly on the first day of the District 3 Swimming Championships.

Derek Estep of Chambersburg won the District 3 Class 3A 100 butterfly event on Friday.

Estep, who won the fly in the Mid Penn meet, was the only MPC swimmer to place first in the boys 3A competition. He swam the event in a winning time of 50.20, beating Wilson's Chadd Courson, who was timed in 50.41.

In the 200 freestyle, Estep's time of 1:40.69 was good for third place.

The Trojans' Layne Rydbom was 15th in the girls 200 IM in 2:17.48, which was her team's best finish of the day.

Also in Class 3A, Waynesboro's Eve Phillips was a runner-up in the 100 butterfly. Her time of 57.61 was nearly two seconds behind winner Camryn Leydig of Central York (55.71).

In Class 2A girls, James Buchanan's 200 medley relay team placed sixth, and Madison Price was sixth in the 200 IM in 2:19.12. The Rockets' team of Price, Kortney Green, Alexa Myers and Rhiannin Peterson swam a time of 1:59.89.

Shippensburg's boys had several good placers — diver Bryce Pattillo was fourth with 234.20 points, Jed Ritchie was fifth in the 100 fly (53.39), Colin Knause was sixth in the 50 free (22.72) and the Greyhounds' 200 medley relay team of Ethan Johnson, Pattillo, Ritchie and Knause was sixth in 1:50.56.
