BOYS LACROSSE
Chambersburg 10, Mechanicsburg 7: The Trojans rolled to a 10-4 lead, survived a 3-goal rally by the Wildcats, and held on for a non-league win Friday evening on the road in their season opener.
"They defense played great," Chambersburg coach Joey Wilmot said. "We were up 10-4 with five minutes left and went brain dead for a couple of minutes and let them get to 10-7. We called a timeout and got out act together and pulled it out."
The Trojans (1-0) got plenty of contributions for various players. Carson Forrester was 10-for-19 on faceoffs, picked up 8 groundballs and drew four fouls. Dom Marangoni scored 3 goals, had 2 assists, had 12 groundballs and caused 4 turnovers. Shea Makosy had 7 groundballs and caused 4 turnovers and goalie Kristian Freeman made 11 saves.
Wilmot said, "Makosy was the best defender on the field all night and Chase Martin played great team defense."
Riley Harmon scored 2 goals and Chambersburg got one goal each from Sam Kunkleman, Brax Makosy, Shea Makosy, Logan Mulkey, and Riley Schaeffer. Kunkleman assisted on 3 goals and Brex Makosy had 2 assists.
Other Trojan statistics included Brax Makosy and Parker King (3 groundballs), Harmon, Owen Shearer and Dylan Barefoot (2 groundballs), and forced turnovers by Shearer, King and Martin.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Mechanicsburg 9, Chambersburg 5: In their season opener at Trojan Stadium on Friday night, the Trojans gave he Wildcats a battle before falling in a non-league contest.
""It was a wonderful season opener," Chambersburg coach Keara Allshouse said. "We didn't pull off the win, but we showed out tenacity, resilience and ability to adapt."
The Trojans (0-1) got a pair of goals each by Hannah Woolf and Ridglee Flohr, and Gabriela Sabatino also netted a shot.
Allshouse said, "I am extremely proud of these ladies and excited for what the remainder of the season holds."
BOYS TENNIS
State College 5, Chambersburg 0: The Little Lions blanked the Trojans in a Mid Penn Commonwealth match on Friday afternoon.
At No. 2 singles, Marcus Rahauser of Chambersburg (0-3, 0-2 MPC) was defeated 6-0, 6-1, and that was the only game that State College allowed in the five matches. The other four were 6-0, 6-0 victories.
