Red Land 7, Chambersburg 1: The Trojans ran into a tough customer on the mound in the Patriots' Kaden Peifer and dropped a Mid Penn Commonwealth game on the road Tuesday afternoon.
Chambersburg (1-1, 0-1 MPC) managed only five hits, including a double by Greg Cunha that brought in Wyatt Kissel with its only run in the sixth inning.
"He's pretty good," Trojan coach Scott Folmar said of Peifer. "He's got a good slider that kept us off-balance."
Tegan Kuhns had a base hit and a walk for Chambersburg.
Starting pitcher Dru Bowling went 3.1 innings and only three of the five runs off him were earned.
Folmar said, "We kicked the ball around a little today (4 errors); it was routine stuff that really hurt us."
BOYS LACROSSE
Chambersburg 17, Central Dauphin East 2: The Trojans dominated from the get-go and pushed their early record to 2-0 (1-0 MPC) with a Mid Penn Commonwealth win over the Panthers on the road Tuesday afternoon.
Dom Marangoni scored 6 goals, Sam Kunkleman had 3 goals and 2 assists and Riley Harmon had a goal and three assists to lead the offense. Also, Brax Makosy and Jackson Beardsley each scored twice and Riley Schaeffer, Shea Makosy and Owen Shearer each scored once. Shea and Brax Makosy each had an assist.
Chambersburg coach Joey Wilmot said, "We struggled to pick up the ball; it was our first time playing on grass. Sam Kunkleman was the only one that seemed unfazed by the change in surface. (Goalie) Kristian Freeman held them scoreless in the first half.
"Harmon, Breadsley and Brax Makosy had really good games at midfield, Shea Makosy (defense) and Marangoni (attack) dominated on both sides and Shearer had a really nice shot for his first career goal."
Carson Forrester corralled 11 of 17 faceoffs and Chase Martin was 2-for-2, the groundball leaders were Kunkleman (7), Shea Makosy (6), Forrester (4) and Harmon (3), while Freeman and Raudel Perez each made four saves.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Chambersburg 11, Central Dauphin East 1: The Trojans turned in a dominating performance to swamp the Panthers in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game Tuesday evening at Trojan Stadium.
"Our attack did a really nice job of running through some plays tonight and hitting open cutters with the ball," Chambersburg coach Keara Allshouse said.
Hannah Woolf led the scoring with five goals, while Gabriella Sabatino came up with four goals and Ridglee Flohr hit the back of the net twice for the Trojans (1-1, 1-0 MPC). Flohr and Sabatino each had two assists.
Allshouse said, "Our entire team did a really good job at putting pressure on the other team at every spot on the field and our communication helped us be successful tonight."
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Chambersburg 105, Mifflin County 45: The Trojans dominated in the field events, outscoring the Huskies 49-14, and wrapped up a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory on Tuesday afternoon in Trojan Stadium. Chambersburg also had a 21-3 advantage in second-place points on the track to win its season-opening dual meet.
Three Trojans won two individual events each: Kate Etter in the long jump (17-2.75) and triple jump (36-6); Kaleah Leisher in the discus (105-7) and shot put (31-7.75); and Ella Fatyol in the 200 (28.2) and 100 hurdles (17.1).
Also taking victories were Jahnaya Wimberley in the high jump (4-8), Ashley Gunkleman in the javelin (93-10), Cayce Elbin in the pole vault (7-6), Lexi Boyd in the 400 (1:07.2) and Yosmary Cabrera in the 300 hurdles (50.1).
The 4 x 800 relay team of Samantha Faust, Allie List, Kali Hughes and Boyd ran 10:50.9 to place first, and the 4 x 100 team of Caitlyn Elbin, Jessy Santana, Fatyol and Wimberley ran 52.8 to grab a win.
BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Chambersburg 102, Mifflin County 48: The Huskies managed to tie the Trojans in the jumps (16-16), but Chambersburg held an advantage everywhere else, including 24-3 in the sprints, to defeat Mifflin County in a season-opening Mid Penn Commonwealth meet at Trojan Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
The Trojans had a trio of double winners, and two were freshmen — Antonio Harrison took the 100 in 11.4 and the 200 in 22.8, while J.J. Kelly was victorious in the high jump (6-0) and long jump (20-8.75). Josh Mertz captured wins in the shot put (44-0.75) and discus (137-10) and was second in the javelin (147-4).
Chambersburg spread the wealth in the individual events, with seven others picking up first-place finishes. They included CJ Miotia in the 400 (56.1), Zack Yourkavitch in the 800 (2:05.5), Ben Colli in the 1600 (4:55.9), Ari Snyder in the 3200 (10:03.7), Jermere Jones in the 110 hurdles (15.3), Edis Korkutovic in the 300 hurdles (41.3) and Daniel Pisle in the pole vault (10-6).
In addition, the 4 x 400 team of Miotia, Yourkavitch, Tanner Meyers and Korkutovic ran 3L38.9 to win, as did the 4 x 800 team of Yourkavitch, Snyder, Karter Reath and Colli in 9:17.8.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Cumberland Valley 3, Chambersburg 0: The Eagles won the first game easily over the Trojans, 25-6, but Chambersburg put up a fight in the next two sets, falling 25-23 and 25-20 in a Mid Penn Commonwealth match Tuesday night at CASHS Field House. More information later.
BOYS TENNIS
Mechanicsburg 5, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans had their most competitive match of the season on Tuesday afternoon at Norlo Park, falling to Mechanicsburg in a non-league contest.
At No. 1 singles for Chambersburg (0-4), Ian Flores lost 6-1 in the first set, but took the second all the way before losing 7-5. At No. 3 singles, Marcus Rahauser fell by scores of 6-1, 6-4.
Noah Yost and Bradley Stahl suffered a 6-0, 6-4 defeat at No. 1 doubles, while the No. 2, the team of Ethan Brandt and Lance Jacobs were defeated, 6-2, 6-1.
