SCOTLAND — Chambersburg got a well-pitched game from Dru Bowling and broke up a 1-0 game with four runs in the fifth inning to capture a 5-0 win over Greencastle-Antrim in a non-league baseball game Monday afternoon at Greene Township Park.
Bowling (1-1) went the distance, giving up only three hits and one walk while striking out five batters. He threw a first-pitch strike to 13 of the 23 batters he faced.
"Dru was outstanding," Trojan coach Scott Folmar said. "He pitched a very, very good game. He was around the strike zone all day and threw only 76 pitches (52 for strikes). And we were playing good defense behind him, so it was a very clean game for us."
G-A coach Eric Shaner said, "I thought their pitcher was the difference today. He threw a great game. He kept the ball down, barely made any mistakes and got a lot of ground balls that their infield did a great job of handling."
For Chambersburg (2-4), which rapped out 9 hits, Brandon Pattillo went 3-for-3 and Tegan Kuhns was 2-for-4.
"Brandon did a nice job — he put the ball in play and used his speed," Folmar said.
Andrew Kerns went the first three innings for the Blue Devils (1-1). He allowed four hits and three walks, but no runs.
In the fourth, the Trojans struck for a run. Braden Zeger got a leadoff base hit and Bryce Folmar sacrificed him to second. Pattillo beat out a grounder to deep short, then Kyle Nolan broke the ice with an RBI single.
Chambersburg broke it open a bit in the fifth with four runs, all after the first two batters were retired. Greg Cunha and Zeger were hit by pitches in consecutive at-bats and Folmar grounded a single to left to score the first run. Pattillo lined a base hit to center for an RBI and Folmar came home on a passed ball. After Nolan was hit by a pitch, Bowling singled to center to bring in run No. 5.
"Their batters made the most of their opportunities in the fifth, when they did most of their damage," Shaner said. "And we just couldn't seem to break through on offense."
Scott Folmar said, "We need to do a better job with timely hitting (the Trojans left 10 runners on base). We had the bases loaded with one out in the first inning and the next two guys struck out. There were a couple of other times the same kind of thing happened."
For Greencastle, Aiden Grudzinski, Ethan Ford and Kerns each posted singles.
