Wrestlers fall by 11 to CD

Central Dauphin 40, Chambersburg 29: The Trojans picked up bonus points in all five bouts that they won, but the Rams proved to have a bit too much firepower and took a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory in Linglestown on Thursday night.

"I thought we outwrestled them and outhustled them," Chambersburg coach Matt Mentzer said. "I left feeling pretty good about our kids tonight. We just got overpowered where they have their really strong kids — they have some legit dudes in that lineup."

The Trojans (5-6, 1-3 MPC) got pins from Frank Barrientos (285), Ashton Romberger (133) and Jaccob Stoner (189), while Zach Sherman scored a 15-0 technical fall at 121 and Aiden Hight won by forfeit at 215.

Mentzer said, "Stoner beat a good freshman of theirs. He dominated and was up I think 9-0 when he pinned him. I just taught Jaccob a throw the other day in practice and he hit it three times in his match — the first two were out of bounds, but he flattened him on the third one.

"I saw some other things we've worked on in practice that the kids tried. They weren't afraid to go out and try things against a really good team."

At 145, Liam Flanagan of CD (3-1, 3-1 MPC), who recently won his 100th career victory, took down Tyler Frye in the first period, but that was all the scoring and it ended 2-0.

Mentzer said, "That match was indicative of how we wrestled — Tyler had a really good kid and he had a chance to tie it late."
