Trojans sit in 3rd place at Southern Tier Memorial Tournament

Trojans sit in 3rd place: Chambersburg competed in the first day of the Southern Tier Memorial Tournament at First Arena in Elmira, N.Y. on Friday and had an excellent start.

Eight of the 12 Trojan wrestlers who competed advanced to Saturday morning's quarterfinals, and three others are still in the consolation rounds.

Chambersburg currently holds third place in the 32-team event with 56.5 points. Tioga, the New York state champion last year, is first with 76.5, Athens has 59, in fourth is Horseheads, N.Y. with 51.5 and Bellefonte has 49.

Six Trojans were 2-0 for the day, including No. 2 seed Zach Sherman at 124 (major, pin), Ashton Romberger at 131 (pin), Logan Mickey at 138 (major), Zethan Sleighter at 152 (pin), Jaccob Stoner at 190 (2 pins), and No. 2 seed Aiden Hight at 215 (2 pins).

Cody Seabolt (101)  and Frank Barrientos (285) each were 1-0 with a pin.

Ben Hoover (108), Tyler Frye (145) and Isiah Tasker (170) are alive in the consolations.

Romberger beat the No. 5 seed 3-2 in his second match, while Mickey also won 3-2 in the second round, with the winning points coming on a takedown with 44 seconds left.
