SPRING GROVE — Only one of 15 competitors from Franklin County was able to win twice and reach the semifinals of the District 3 Class 3A Wrestling Championships on a busy Friday at Spring Grove H.S.

The lone standing semifinalist is Chambersburg senior Aiden Hight, who notched a pair of pins to easily reach Saturday morning's next round.
Hight defeated Bennett Bradley of York Tech in 1:26 after a series of throws jacked the score up, and then in the quarterfinals, he decked Eliezer Chaparro of McCaskey in 1:41.
"The first kid came out and went upper body with Aiden, and you don't want to do that," Trojan coach Matt Mentzer said. "He had two dominating matches so far, and that's what we're looking to see."
Hight (30-3), a North Dakota State commit, will take on Kyle Miller of Elco (33-8) in the semifinals, which begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.
There are six other county wrestlers still alive in the consolation rounds, with a chance to finish in the top four and qualify for the PIAA State Tournament.
Still alive for Chambersburg are Zach Sherman (121), Ashton Romberger (133), Isaiah Tasker (172) and Frank Barrientos (285), while Waynesboro's Jayden Rooney (139) and Caden Shockey (189) are still in the hunt.
Sherman won a tight first-round bout over Tyler Detwiler of Palmyra, winning 5-3 on a takedown with 23 seconds left. But he couldn't get his offense going in the quarterfinals and fell 3-2 to Jackson Orrell of Red Lion. Orrell countered a Sherman shot and scored the winning takedown with less than 10 seconds left.
Mentzer said, "That kid didn't shoot much, but he stayed in good position. Sherm had an opening and he took the right shot; he just didn't quite execute it. He took the shot he needed to take to win."
Romberger won by fall in the first round, but was blanked 7-0 by Tyler Adams of York Suburban. At 285, Barrientos scored a takedown with 50 seconds to go and edged Ayden Wysocki of South Western in the first round, but was pinned in the quarters by Cory Schaffer of Hershey.
"I like the fact that our guys came back in the consolation round and got some wins," Mentzer said."Sherm, Romberger and Barrientos all won again, and so did Tasker."
Isaiah Tasker lost his first bout at 172, but had a pair of narrow wins in consolations.
Shippensburg's two-man contingent of Eddie Alcantara and John Gleason got through the first round in good shape, but Alcantara was defeated 8-0 and Gleason 11-4 in the quarterfinals. Both then lost their next consolation match.
For Waynesboro, Rooney and Shockey both dropped first-round matches, but rallied for a pair of wins in the consolations.
