CHAMBERSBURG — The track & field postseason began Saturday at Trojan Stadium, with a crowd of athletes vying for Mid Penn Conference championships.
Chambersburg had a good day team-wise. The girls had 10 medalists in the 18 events and placed third in the team standings behind Cumberland Valley and Northern York. The Trojan boys had a medalists in 10 events and took second behind Carlisle.
"I was super proud of our crew; it was nice to score points in so many different events," Chambersburg girls coach Chris Monheim said. "Many girls improved their chances of getting to districts with today's performances."
Trojan boys coach Jim Boyer said, "I was really pleased with our boys' second-place finish among the 28 scoring teams. We once again showcased our balance well, scoring points in all event areas — sprints, distance, hurdles, relays, jumps and throws."

Chambersburg's Jahnaya Trotter-Wimberley competes in the long jump in the Mid Penn championships on Saturday. She placed second in the event.
The Trojans' Alleman won his 3200 race in 9:41.31, four seconds ahead of runner-up Everett Byer of Cumberland Valley.
Alleman stayed in third place through most of the first seven laps, behind Hershey's Eddie Liszka and Trojan teammate Kaden Rife (who ended up in 6th), but kept it close. In the final lap, Alleman took control and held off the field.
Boyer said, "Alleman had a breakthrough performance, impressively gapping the field in the last lap."
On the girls' side for the Trojans, Natalie Holmes placed second in the 100 and third in the 200, and anchored the second-place 4 x 100 relay team that included Jaxin Frazer, Niamah Collins and Lashae Hang. Jahnaya Trotter-Wimberley was the runner-up in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump.
