CHAMBERSBURG — The local high school cross country season got off to its traditional start Friday with the Enos Yeager Invitational held at the Tim Cook Memorial course in Chambersburg.
The race is 2.33 miles.
Carlisle and Chambersburg will fight it out later in a boys dual meet — both put four runners in the top 10 on Friday. For the Trojans, Aiden Alleman was third in 12:48, Julian Clark was fourth, Liam Kirkpatrick fifth and Kaden Rife ninth. The Herd countered with runners in 1st, 6th, 8th and 10th.
It was similar in the girls race, with Carlisle coming in 1st and 10th, and the Trojans placing runners in the No. 4 (Mady Koons), 6 (Brook Boone), 9 (Dana Rosenberry), 11 (Natalie Quinn) and 12 (Kaylie Savage) positions.
Chambersburg girls coach Chris Monheim said, "I was very pleased with our first meet — just about every returner ran faster than they did a year ago. Mady Koons led us with a solid fourth. We had 11 girls in the top 30 compared to seven last year. Kaylie Savage had a huge race for us and was the top ninth-grader in the race."
