Game data: Crusaders (1-1, 0-1 MPC) at Trojans (1-1, 0-1 MPC), 7 p.m. … Mid Penn Commonwealth game … Live stream on MidPennBroadcasting.com.
Last week: CD East humbled Chambersburg, 50-2 … The Crusaders were beaten 35-33 in overtime by Harrisburg.
The opponent: Bishop McDevitt has won 10 District 3 titles since 2010 and was a PIAA semifinalist last year … The Crusaders were moved up to Class 5A this year, and were placed in the Commonwealth from the Keystone Division … QB Stone Saunders is in range of breaking several state records set just last year by Steel-High's Alex Erby; Saunders, starting for the 4th year and a Kentucky recruit, began the season with 155 touchdown passes and 10,142 passing yards … Freshman RB Jerome Larue already had college offers before his high school career began, although the top rusher is Nazir Jones-Davis … Last week, Jones-Davis had 150 yards on 20 carries.
Coach's view: "Well, McDevitt presents quite a challenge," Chambersburg coach Mark Luther said. "They're almost like a college team, with nobody playing both ways. We have the toughest part of our schedule starting Friday (followed by Harrisburg at State College). What I want to see is some heart against these good teams and hope we can better in these games so that when the second half comes around, we'll be in better shape. What it boiled down to last week was that CD East got off the ball and played fast and physical, and we didn't. We went through the film and showed them where they missed assignments, and we'll have to do better at that. If we do our assignments, like we're teaching them, and still get beat by better athletes, there's not much we can do. But we can't keep beating ourselves."
Unsung: DE Jude Grillo. Luther said, "Jude played a solid game on the line. He held his ground on the edge and got off the blocks and made some good stops."
Stats: The Trojans were held to just 13 yards of offense last week and had only one first down that didn't come from a penalty … The Chambersburg defense allowed 474 yards, but three of the TDs East scored were on interception or fumble returns.
