Chambersburg (4-2, 3-2 MPC) won games 1 and 2 (25-19, 25-19), dropped the third game 25-18, and ended the match with a 25-22 score in game 4.

"We worked our way through tonight," Trojan coach Ty Frelin said. "Cedar Cliff played us tough and made it difficult to pull ahead. But late in each set we did what we had to do to get the win."

Marah Lehman scored 11 points on her serve, including 2 aces, for Chambersburg, and also had 11 kills and 18 digs. Alayna Jones led in kills with 17 and added 21 digs.

Other leaders were Karley Skultety in digs (38), Riley Evans in blocks (4) and Ava Zeigler in assists with 51. Zeigler also had 7 points (with 4 aces), Nizaya Hawkins had 11 kills and Kasey Moser put up 9 kills.

Natalie Quinn

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Chambersburg wins tri-meet: The Trojans' top 5 runners all placed in the top 7 and that led to a pair of Mid Penn Commonwealth wins on Tuesday afternoon at Carlisle — 21-38 over the Thundering Herd and 15-45 over Mifflin County.

"I was happy to get two wins, because we looked tired — fortunately we have a week before we race again," Chambersburg coach Chris Monheim said. "Natalie Quinn had a strong day to finish in our second spot."

Carlisle's Ana Bondy took the top spot in 20:08, but Chambersburg (3-0, 3-0 MPC) took the next four positions — Mady Koons (20:50, Quinn (21:28), Brook Boone (21:42 and Dana Rosenberry (21:46), and then Raegan Hepner placed 7th in 22:37.

Also, Lydia Willson placed 1th ahead of a Trojan pack that took the next 9 spots — 13th through 21st place.

Boston Vincenti

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Herd edges Trojans, 27-28: Chambersburg lost a heartbreaker to Carlisle on the Herd's home course Tuesday afternoon, and also picked up a win over Mifflin County in a Mid Penn Commonwealth tri-meet.

Chambersburg was edged by the narrowest margins by Carlisle, with the Herd beating three of the Trojans' 5 scoring runners and the Trojans beating two of Carlisle's.

"It's tremendously disappointing," Chambersburg coach John Ambrosio said. "They just wanted to win more than we did. We ran so much slower today than we did Saturday on a faster course today.

"In my 37 years — and this is my last — this is as disappointed as I've been. I really wanted to beat my rival, Carlisle."

BOYS SOCCER
Altoona 1, Chambersburg 0: The Mountain Lions traveled to Trojan Stadium and earned a tight victory over the Trojans in a non-league match Tuesday night.

"I thought we played well defensively tonight," Chambersburg coach Corey Grove said. "But we have some work to do up top. Four goals in seven games isn't going to get the job done.

"Our younger guys have been working hard; we just need some leadership to turn the corner."

The Trojans (1-5-1) out-shot Altoona 12-6 and had 4 corner kicks to 2 for the Mountain Lions. Tyson Shanholtz had 3 saves.

Kadence Decker

GIRLS SOCCER
Altoona 4, Chambersburg 3, 2 OT: For the second time in a week, the Trojans took a 2-0 lead, but ended up dropping a 4-3 decision; on Tuesday night it was at Altoona in a non-league game.

"It was another case of not killing the game when we had the chance to do so, but we do continue to improve incrementally in open field play," Chambersburg coach Paul Unruh said.

The Trojans (1-3-2) took control early on two goals by Kadence Decker — one on a penalty kick and the second on a shot drilled from 25 yards out. Altoona made it 2-1 before halftime, but a goal by Malia Cramer gave Chambersburg a 3-1 lead in the second half.

Unruh said, "Altoona continued to scrap and they got one back, and then tied it up right at the end of regulation play on a free kick. It stayed 3-3 into the second overtime, and with just two minutes left, they were awarded a free kick and scored on it."

GIRLS GOLF
Trojans compete: The Mid Penn held a girls tournament at Sportsman's G.C. on Tuesday and Chambersburg was at far less than full strength.

Emily Rensch, twice a medalist this year, missed because of a college class. Alaina Morris played with a sore wrist and managed to tie for 16th with a 97 (44-53).
