Last week: Chambersburg (1-2, 0-2 MPC) was defeated 40-3 by Bishop McDevitt … Harrisburg (2-1, 2-0 MPC) squeaked by State College in a defensive struggle, 7-6, when the Cougars blocked a chip shot field goal try inside the final 2 minutes.
The opponent: Harrisburg lost star lineman Kevin Brown, a Penn State signee, to injury and QB Shawn Lee to an eligibility hearing … The Cougars have pulled out quality wins over the past 2 weeks over McDevitt (35-33 in OT) and State College by a total of 3 points … Jaiyon Lewis has taken over at quarterback, and he's hit 29 of 42 passes for 419 yards, 3 TDs and no interceptions … All-State wide receiver Elias Coke — who blocked the field goal last week — is the top receiver with 12 catches for 205 yards and a score … Lewis leads in rushing, too, with 192 yards and 2 scores.
Coach's view: Trojan coach Mark Luther said, "Harrisburg is still good, but without Brown and Lee — you take out two kids like that and it makes a difference. They've struggled some on offense and they only had one drive last week. But they've found a way to hang on. Their quarterback now can beat you with his feet, so we have to keep him in the pocket. State College did that and gave up only one big play."
Unsung: Chambersburg started a pair of sophomores at guard last week — LG Rylan Pottle (5-10, 220) and RG Omar Hanchey (5-11, 220) — and they hung in well against the Crusaders … Luther said, "Those two did a really nice job for heir first real experience with varsity football. They did some good things, they were aggressive and physical. We used them to pull sometimes and they threw some great blocks."
