Chambersburg roundup: Girls lacrosse picks up 10-1 victory

GIRLS LACROSSE
Chambersburg 10, Central Dauphin East 1: The Trojan defense allowed only one goal and the team posted a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory over the Panthers on Wednesday night at Trojan Stadium.

Brynn Sekel

"We won, but it wasn't pretty," Chambersburg coach Shane Henry said. "I will chalk it up to the emotions of Senior Night. We were sloppy on both sides of the ball, but we did what we needed to do to win."

Trojan goalie Reese Heverley, a freshman, had 5 saves and is over 100 for the season.

:She's been a solid force in the cage and the defense really supports her well," Henry said. "I'm a lucky coach to have her here for three more years."

Brynn Sekel racked up 3 goals, one assist and 7 draw controls, and had 3 caused turnovers. Reagan Barrett collected 3 goals, an assist, 3 groundballs and 2 turnovers, Mollie Yardley-Gontz scored 3 times, McKenna Myers had a goal and 3 groundballs and Adele Henry had 3 caused turnovers and 2 groundballs.

Coach Henry said, "McKenna, a senior, played a great game and worked hard all night on offense. Mollie broke loose and continued to battle all game."

BASEBALL
State College 2, Chambersburg 1: Two days after beating Central Dauphin in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Trojans fell victim to the Little Lions, who scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh in a Mid Penn Commonwealth clash on Wednesday afternoon.

Kam Mauriello

Chambersburg (3-9, 2-7 MPC), which came in with a 2-game win streak, took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Wyatt Martin hit a leadoff single and two outs later, Ceagan Truett walked. Kam Mauriello then doubled to left field to bring in Martin.

Pitcher Ryne Mills held the Little Lions (5-4, 5-2 MPC) scoreless until the fifth, when two errors let in the tying run. The Trojans did throw out a runner at the plate to keep the score 1-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, State College's leadoff batter reached on yet another error and was bunted to second. An intentional walk and a base hit loaded the bases, and another single brought in the winning run.

Mills went the distance, giving up 8 hits, but no earned runs. He walked one and fanned 8 batters. Mauriello had 2 of the Trojans' 4 hits in the game.
